Your Handicap Index travels with you. Your Course Handicap is the number of strokes you get from a specific set of tees, adjusted for how hard those tees play.
Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par), rounded to the nearest whole number.
Slope Rating measures how much harder the course plays for a bogey golfer than for a scratch golfer. Course Rating minus par adjusts for tees that play longer or shorter than par 72.
| Tees (men) | Yards | Rating / Slope | 10.0 Index | 15.0 Index | 20.0 Index |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black (Tournament) | 7,146 | 75.3 / 142 | 16 | 22 | 28 |
| Blue (Championship) | 6,514 | 72.0 / 137 | 12 | 18 | 24 |
| White (Standard) | 6,004 | 69.3 / 130 | 9 | 15 | 20 |
| Gold | 5,354 | 66.2 / 121 | 5 | 10 | 16 |
Par 72 from every set of tees. Women’s ratings: Black (Tournament) 81.6 / 152, Blue (Championship) 78.6 / 145, White (Standard) 75.6 / 139, Gold 71.7 / 129 and Forward 70.1 / 125. Combination tees (Blue/White and White/Gold) are rated too; use the calculator above for your exact number.
Because the formula already accounts for Course Rating minus par, golfers playing different tees can compete in the same game without any extra adjustment. Pick the tees that fit your game and play.
Strokes go on the hardest holes first, following the Handicap row on the scorecard. At Druids Glen, No. 9 is the No. 1 handicap hole, followed by No. 15 and No. 4. The scorecard uses one handicap row for every tee.
Stroke order: 9, 15, 4, 10, 3, 18, 5, 16, 2, 17, 1, 14, 7, 11, 8, 12, 6, 13.
A Course Handicap of 9 means one stroke on each of the nine hardest holes. A Course Handicap of 20 means one stroke on every hole, plus a second stroke on No. 9 and No. 15.
The World Handicap System recommends a handicap allowance for each format, so a 5 and a 25 can play together and both have a real chance to win.
Teams of two. Everyone plays their own ball and the team takes the lower net score on each hole. Play it as stroke play for a total, or as match play hole by hole.
Handicap allowance: 85% of each player’s Course Handicap in stroke play, 90% in match play.
Everyone for themselves. Score points on every hole from your net score: 1 for a net bogey, 2 for net par, 3 for net birdie, 4 for net eagle. Most points wins, and you can pick up once you can’t score, which keeps the round moving.
Handicap allowance: 95% of Course Handicap.
The whole group. Everyone tees off, the team picks the best shot and all four play from there until the ball is holed. Lowest team net score wins. Relaxed and social, ideal for outings and newer golfers.
Handicap allowance: 25% of the lowest Course Handicap, 20% of the second, 15% of the third and 10% of the highest.
Head to head. Three matches in one: the front nine, the back nine and the full 18. Win a hole with the lower net score, with three chances to win even after a slow start.
Handicap allowance: 100% of Course Handicap. The lowest player plays off zero and everyone else gets the difference.
Post every score in the GHIN app after your round so your Handicap Index reflects how you’re playing now. The calculator on this page gives an estimate; your official Course Handicap is the one shown in GHIN.
